Supporting Children’s Homes | IT Education Support for Children (SDGs)
FUMIKODA is committed to creating a sustainable future where the planet, animals, and people can thrive. As part of this vision, we support education and job training for children in care homes, helping them achieve independence and contributing to a more sustainable society by enhancing their IT skills.
IT Skills Development Project
This project provides children with IT skills that will support future employment. Donations fund participation in IT camps, programming courses, and the purchase of PCs and other digital devices. Through IT education, we aim for children to gain essential skills and self-confidence before they turn 18, preparing them for successful lives.
Activity 1: Donating a Portion of Accessory Line Sales
Driven by a desire to provide IT learning opportunities for children, FUMIKODA launched an accessory line. Among this collection, items like the bangles, necklaces, and earrings chosen as gifts for the First Lady of the United States at the Japan-U.S. Summit have drawn particular attention. A portion of sales from this collection is donated annually to the NPO BLUE FOR JAPAN. Thanks to the support of our customers, this project continues to benefit more children.
Activity 2: Hosting Charity Auctions
Since 2017, FUMIKODA has collaborated with BLUE FOR JAPAN to host charity auctions. These events, featuring items donated by celebrities, raise funds to support children’s homes and raise awareness about employment challenges these children face. Through this initiative, we not only expand support for children but also aim to increase social awareness.
Background and Future Vision
BLUE FOR JAPAN, where FUMIKODA’s creative director Fumi Koda serves as a board member, has been supporting children in care homes across Japan, including those in Fukushima, since the 2011 earthquake. Through the IT Skills Development Project, we strive to build a foundation that enables children to confidently step into society.
Having supported this cause for over a decade, Fumi Koda recognizes the importance of equipping 18-year-olds with both “skills” and “confidence.” Through IT education and a sense of achievement from the project, children develop the power to make a positive impact in society. However, as IT education requires significant funding, FUMIKODA continuously raises funds through accessory sales and charity auctions.
Looking ahead, FUMIKODA will continue to support IT education to empower children with hope for the future and the tools to contribute meaningfully to a sustainable society.
